My Story

There is an adorable video of me on ACC's TikTok page. Click here to experience the cuteness! All pets are vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered when appropriate. Please check here for updated adoption hours. A bit about me: Penny was surrendered to Manhattan ACC when her owner was unable to care for her any longer due to their changed living circumstances. My ideal home: Penny would do best in a patient adult only home with no cats. She's a young, enthusiastic, and social dog who will thrive with daily mental and physical activities. To keep her happily engaged and exercised, we recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and fun hide-and-seek games, along with plenty of physical exercise. Good with other pets? Penny is fearful at the shelter and was tense when greeting a helper dog through a gate. Her previous owner stated that she was playful with familiar dogs, and tolerant with unfamiliar dogs. We always suggest slow introductions with resident pets, and we offer a 2-week trial adoption to help you see if Penny is a good fit with your family. Her previous owner stated that Penny lunged at cats. Therefore, we do not recommend Penny to go to a cat household. Good with kids? Penny's previous owner stated that she was shy with kids and prefers the company of adults and older children that understand her boundaries. Due to her anxiety and fearfulness, we recommend a household with no children under 13. How is my health? Penny is medically healthy! How are my leash manners? Penny has been fearful at shelter. She would need a patient adopter that allows her to come out of her shell at her own pace. What is my behavior assessment? Penny has been assessed as a Level 4 dog. She is very fearful due to her inconsistent living situations over the past year. She was still a puppy during her first stay at ACC, and was in the shelter environment for several months. This is her second time coming to ACC due to her owner's move, and she is understandably anxious and scared to be back in a stressful environment. Penny needs a patient and understanding adopter that will help her come out of her shell and help her feel safe. When she feels comfortable, she becomes a great cuddlebug, and is noted to a wonderfully loving companion by staff and volunteers. ACC counselors would be happy to provide guidance and resources to Penny's adopter. Primary Color: Brown Weight: 37lbs Age: 2yrs 0mths 2wks Animal has been Spayed
