Petey is a very unusual blend - basset hound and pit bull (we believe). He's about one year old. He's super cute and super duper sweet. He's very bouncy despite those short little legs. He loves people and other dogs. Are you the right family for this fun boy? Here's what his foster mom had to say about him:
Petey is incredibly sweet and smart. He has mastered "sit", "leave it", "down" (not his favorite), and we're working on "off", "stay" and "crate".
He loves pets (i don't think you could do too much of that for his taste) and cuddling up on the couch. He's completely potty trained. He has done well with all other dogs we've come across and has made a great buddy out of our neighbor dog (they have been having nightly play dates).
We are crate training Petey while we are at work. He's been doing great. I head home once/day to give him a break and walk. Total silence whenever we come home....neighbors haven't heard whining.
Petey will likely do best with lots of activities to keep him busy and his mind active (agility candidate??)...I could see him being bored with a sedentary lifestyle.
I've been spoiling Petey with lots of squeaky toys and bones. He LOVES squeaky toys and will literally entertain himself (as well as play with us); however, he needs to be monitored because he quickly shreds these plush toys. He is not aggressive with toys or bones, although he can be stubborn when told to "drop it" when he's excited. He eventually complies, but sometimes reluctantly.
Petey doesn't appear to have experience with cats. He has not been aggressive with my kitties, however, he will chase if given the chance...Once this happens, it's difficult to redirect.
Petey Loves to give kisses. He can be pretty jumpy when excited, so he may accidently knock over a small child. He does whine (quietly) when separated from his family.
Petey is a total love bug, playful, smart, eager to please, energetic but also mellows out after play time...great, great, great pooch!
Adoption Process: We are not first come first served. Indigo Rescue focuses on finding good matches between dogs and families to ensure life long adoptions. We deliver all dogs to their new homes.
All of our dogs are in foster homes. We have adoption events at the Beaverton PetSmart every other Saturday where you can meet many of our dogs at once. Click Here for our Calendar of Events. Or, if you're interested in a particular dog, you can send an e-mail via the e-mail link at the bottom of the page ("Email Indigo Rescue") with answers to the questions below. If the dog seems compatible with your situation we'll set up a time for you to meet the dog.
Do you have other pets now? (briefly describe)
Have you had pets in the past? What became of them?
What is your schedule like? How long/often will the dog be alone?
What kind of exercise will the dog get? (type/frequency)
Where will the dog be while you're gone? Where will the dog be when you're home? Where will the dog sleep?
Are you in a home or apartment? How long have you lived there? Do you have a fully, securely fenced yard? (type/height)
Do you own or rent your home?
Who else lives in the home? Do you have children? How old are the children?
What changes in your life are likely in the next 10+ years (or life span of the dog) and how will the changes affect the dog? (moving, job or schedule change, school, having children)
Anything else you'd like us to consider in finding the right dog for your family?
Thank you for your interest in adopting and saving a life!
