My Story

Phoebe-the-Sweetie is seeking her furever family! She’s a loving young girl with a stunning, short and easy-to-maintain coat. Phoebe came into rescue as a stray who was sleeping on someone’s porch for a couple of weeks - clearly, she wants to be living in a home with people to dote on her! This energetic gal loves to run and play, so she’d enjoy a fenced-in yard (a 5’ chain-link would be sufficient), and maybe a male doggie playmate. She’d also be fine as an only dog, so long as she would have attention from her people and play time breaks throughout the day. Phoebe thinks it would be awesome to have people who want to teach her new tricks! - She is treat-motivated and loves to please, not to mention that she’s super smart. She’s already crate trained and is working on her leash-walking skills. Grooming is a breeze since she doesn’t mind being brushed or having her nails trimmed. Her preference is to air-dry her short coat and keep the noisy blow dryers away. Loud storms would ideally steer clear of her as well, but since she’s yet to learn how to control the weather, she simply takes herself to a safe place to ride them out. Some of her favorite things include Bully Sticks, Frostie Paws (who doesn’t love ice cream, right?!), and antlers - they’re the best! She’s a bit shy with car rides, but is getting much better, and will jump in and out of the car with ease. Barking is a part of living the Pyr life, but Phoebe is not excessive about it, even a little below average for a Great Pyrenees. She enjoys hanging out indoors and outside, with no desire to dig or be destructive. This happy pup meets new people well, without much reaction to strangers. If you’re looking for an active companion who loves to run and play, and then receive hugs and pets afterwards, put in your application for Phoebe today! NYS Registered Rescue # RR102 NGPR dogs are in foster homes at the location specified on their full listing. View the full listing (with location, fee and application link) at HTTPS://NATIONALPYR.ORG/ADOPTABLE-DOGS Completion of an application is required to be considered for any dog. Please fill out the application on our website and we will contact you. HTTPS://NATIONALPYR.ORG/ADOPTION-APPLICATION/ Due to the high level of interest we can't respond to emails unless an application has been submitted. Our goal is to assess every application on its own merits. Key considerations are: 1) the experience of the applicant with large breed dogs 2) children in the household or regularly visiting the household are ready for a large-breed dog who is a guardian by nature (www.nationalpyr.org/know-the-breed) and 3) the sex of other dogs currently residing in the household to avoid same-sex aggression issues. For puppies under six months old, the applicant’s ability to socialize the puppy with older dogs is a priority. Secure VISIBLE fencing is required; invisible fencing WILL NOT contain this breed.
