My Story

Play-Doh is a tall, dark, and handsome 3-year-old male, neutered German Shepherd who recently got his freedom ride from a local shelter. He’s looking for his forever home and has a lot to offer! He is currently fostered in the Barrie, ON area. Here’s what we’ve learned about Play-Doh so far: - Amazing Recall: He knows his name and comes when called. - Loves Car Rides: He’s a road trip enthusiast. - Tail Chaser: He loves chasing his tail and getting belly rubs. - Playful: Just starting to enjoy his toys. - Leash Lover: Gets super excited when you pick up his leash. - House Trained: Can hold his potty for a long time. - Crate Trained: He’s comfortable in his crate. - Grooming: Has been good to be groomed. - Non-Chewer: Hasn’t shown a drive to chew things. - Learning Commands: Currently learning “Sit,” “Down,” and “Stay/Wait.” Play-Doh has moderate to low energy. He can run all day or happily lean back and take a nap. Being a working breed, however, he would do best in a home that can keep his brain entertained and give him a nice mixture of work and rest. Things he needs to work on: - Can get overstimulated but calms down if put into a “sit.” - Needs leash work, pulls and is vocal towards strangers/other animals (his foster is working on this currently) - Needs work with jumping up. - Has shown some separation anxiety when you first leave the room. - Needs slow introductions to new dogs and people. - Has a bit of a prey drive that can be worked on in the right home. Currently learning “leave it.” As a German Shepherd and working breed, Play-Doh would do best in a home with breed experience or a home that is prepared and willing to continue providing him with the routine he loves. He's looking for a home with no cats or young children at this time. He is fostered with another dog and could do well in a home with another dog with an experienced owner. He thrives on having a job to do or a routine to follow, and would benefit from an experienced owner who can provide clear boundaries and expectations to set him up for success.
