Poochi - Adopted

Poochi is about 2 1/2 years old (Born 12/07) in these pictures taken June 20, 2009 at our partner shelter in Arkansas where she resides. She was found running the streets by some people who called the vet the next day to see who owned her. Poochi was wearing a rabies tag but when the vet called the owner, he was told that the person no longer wanted Poochi. Not wanting to just turn this sweet little girl over to a kill shelter, the people who found her contacted LP and agreed to foster Poochi until we placed her.

Her foster parents say that Poochi is very sweet, good natured, and playful. She is also very smart and a quick learner. They have not let her inside so we do not know if she is housebroken, but they do know that she LOVES going for rides in the car and LOVES playing in the water. Playing with other dogs too is a lot of fun for her. Poochi does seem to have a lot of energy so she will need a good size yard to run in or a family who takes her for long walks and plays with her. She really enjoys getting attention from people and goes right up to strangers. Poochi ignored the cat she was introduced to, but it was in a kennel so we do not know what she would do if she saw one running. She does well on a leash and doesn't have any food aggressions.

Poochi tested negative for Heartworm/Lyme/Ehrlichiosis and has been on HW preventative. She weighed 15 pounds when she went to the vet on 7/3/09.

If this Dog is marked Urgent, it is because the Arkansas shelter where he/she resides is overfull. Please do not ask local shelters to take this dog in, there are many reasons why they cannot. Please also do not send us letters about why we euthanize, AHR does not euthanize, but the shelters we work with do. We are a rescue and we pull as many dogs as we have foster homes and funds for. We, like the shelter, do not have unlimited resources. Please, please: foster, adopt or sponsor a dog to help save their lives.

. We pay a Transportation Service from Arkansas to bring the dogs to New England. The adoption fee is $300 for dogs up to 6 months of age, $250 for dogs 7 months-5 years, and $200 for dogs 5 years and older. This includes vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchip, and transport from Arkansas to Maine on a USDA approved transport with a Health Certificate. All dogs are quarantined 14 days prior to leaving Arkansas. All dogs will be tested for Heartworm prior to adoption. Almost Home Rescue will process your adoption.
