My Story

Meet our cherished new friend, Poppy, a sweet-natured eleven-year-old female Bichon mix (weighing in at 12 lbs). Poppy is a rather social girl, both with humans and with other dogs. In her kennel, she can be seen snoozing away on a comfy bed, belly in the air! We think she is dreaming of the day she has a family to give her all the belly rubs. Poppy is the happiest girl who is sure to bring joy to all around her. If you feel inspired to be part of her life story, please visit nmdr.org to apply for adoption. Imagine being the loving home that unlocks her potential and joy. - - - - - Prior to being rescued, many of our dogs have experienced minimal socialization. As a result, there is often an adjustment period when learning about life as a family pet. We typically do not adopt to homes with young children. Homes with older children will be considered on an individual basis. Common skills such as house training and leash walking will often take a little extra time. Patience, understanding and a gentle hand are a must. The great news is, most of these dogs come around rather quickly and being a part of their rehabilitation is an extremely rewarding experience.
