Meet Poppy!! My rescue journey didn’t start all rainbows and glitter. I was just about 8 weeks old and 5lbs when Project Freedom Ride stepped in to help me. The story goes that some kind people found me after I was allegedly stomped on by some cruel human who had no disregard for my well-being. It left me with a severely damaged back left leg. Thankfully those kind people sought help and Project Freedom Ride answered. They immediately took me to the emergency vet and after meeting the amazing Dr. Kunkle at Blue Pearl it was determined I was a great candidate for an amputation. It would allow me the quickest and easiest recovery and at just a couple months old that was exactly what I needed. On May 21st that damaged leg was removed, and I have never looked back. I’m a tripod * Age – estimated birthday is March 25th, 2024 * Weight – estimated at 20-25lb as of July 22nd, 2024 * Social butterfly * Super outgoing and playful * Dog Friendly. Fostered with other dogs * Cats are unknown and per our adoption policy if not fostered with cats will not adopt to a home with cats for everyone’s safety * Learning commands like sit & wait and am doing rather well for my age * Love squeaky toys & nylabones * Will cuddle some but not long periods of time .. I love to play * Still working on fetch, it’s a weird concept * Still working on crate training overnight and some days while my foster mom is at work (6-8 hrs) – only #1 accidents – never #2 * Very treat motivated * Although new places can be a little bit of an adjustment for me, with the noises and all, I would love to find paw-rents who are social like me. This requires the adopter be local to Augusta / Evans, GA area. As a Project Freedom Ride adoption, the adoption process may include an in person interview or a virtual interview/meet and greet would take place on a video call (FB Messenger Call, Facetime, Zoom, Etc). The adoption application and fee would be finalized & paid in full prior to receiving your dog.
