My Story

Oh our Porter is a hoot. This guy has been through a lot. Mostly, he lived in fear...total fear, constantly on the run for many months. Back in January, Porter was still on the loose. He was being tracked by our friends at HARTT and had covered approximately 30 miles. Porter was too terrified to trust anyone, and he would just run to nowhere, trying to escape his fear. Porter finally settled in Anthem, AZ. He was hanging around a homeowners carport and she was supplying him with a steady flow of food and water. Time was of the essence to save Porter as we worried he would hit the road again... and soon Porter was safe! It was a traumatic rescue as a gigantic drop net was deployed above him... but he was safe! So today, many months later, Porter still is a timid soul, or should we say an insecure soul. But he is sweet, he is funny and he has turned into the biggest couch potato. Most importantly, he has found joy in life. Porter has come a long way. He is currently in a foster home that has multiple dogs. He loves to sit on the couch and just get his chest petted. Porter has multiple doggie friends and loves to wrestle with them...on his couch. Porter will make a wonderful companion but he is still a long way from being whole. When new people approach, he barks and back peddles, but will settle nicely if the pace is slow. Porter has volunteers who come and sit with him. One volunteer brings a book and reads to Porter. The next step in Porters journey to wholeness is a family with a quiet, steady routine. Porter will need time to adjust to his new surroundings...patience, kindness and understanding is a must. He is still terrified of the car, and will need work feeling safe on a leash. Porter is still a work in progress, but the work will be soooo rewarding to witness him become whole. He has made such gigantic strides. Porter is about two years old, and weighs 50lbs. He is a sweet, sweet fella and he is a hoot. We joke that he has become such a couch potato because he is still recovering from all those miles he covered while running in fear. Those days are in the past. If you would like to be part of Porters future, an application is a MUST: https://povertyspets.org/adoption-form/. Once received, you will be contacted within 72 hours.
