Portia is a sweet and sensitive soul who found her way to HSHC as a stray in May of 2024. Since then, this gentle girl has made incredible strides in her journey towards finding her forever home. When Portia first arrived, she was understandably overwhelmed and timid, especially in new and busy environments. Loud noises and unfamiliar faces would send her into a bit of a tailspin, but with time, patience, and a lot of love from our team, she's shown tremendous growth and resilience. Portia might be a bit cautious at first, but give her a little time and you'll discover a heart of gold. She absolutely adores gentle petting and quiet moments. Her ideal home would be a calm and patient environment where she can blossom at her own pace. While Portia has done well with older children during her time at the shelter, she does get a bit anxious around younger, more energetic kiddos. Due to her preference for peace and predictability, we recommend that her new home be with families where all members are 12 years of age or older. This ensures that everyone understands her needs and is committed to her lifelong care and comfort. Adopting Portia means welcoming a companion who will need some extra time to adjust. She's still getting used to things like leashes, cars, and new places. Her new family should be prepared for a few months of gentle and gradual transition, helping her gain confidence and comfort in her new surroundings. Portia does best with positive reinforcement techniques-treats and praises are her favorite rewards!
