My Story

My name is Preston, and I love people more than anything. The recent years have been a bit rough for me, and it all started when somehow I lost my family. The nice people at Mackenzie’s took me in, and soon they found out that I was going to require immediate medical care due to several reasons – I was underweight, with severe hematomas in my ears, and on top of all that the doctor’s found a massive 4 pound Thymoma Tumor that had grown inside my chest cavity. (You can see a photo of me on my first day at Mackenzie’s which shows my bulging chest. Just click on my attached photos.) My body had basically started shutting down, as my kidneys were failing and I wasn’t producing enough calcium to survive. Doctor’s at Michigan State University were able to successfully remove the massive tumor and nurse me back to health with calcium supplements and other treatments. Currently I have a clean bill of health, and feel as good as ever weighing a beautiful 76 pounds. It’s a miracle that I found Mackenzie’s and was able to receive the medical care I needed. Now I have a second chance to live a happy, healthy life cuddled up with people who care so much about me!

I am such a friendly and loyal dog who is great with all people, old and young, and I would love to find a new family to love and keep me forever. However, I understand it won’t be easy to find a family who has the resources to care for a dog with special medical needs like mine. Every 3 months, the doctors will need to monitor my calcium levels by doing blood-work, ultrasounds and x-rays, and I’ll also be evaluated for the reappearance of any tumors. In addition, I was recently diagnosed with epilepsy, but have not had anymore seizures thanks to my medications.

I am adoptable to the right family who is able to commit to my continually unpredictable medical needs, and who will also be home with me most of the day. Sometimes I get a little anxious, and so I like to be with my people and out doing activities with them (I love walks, and training with treats!!!). Plus, due to my unpredictable health conditions, I would do best in a family that is home with me most of the day. Luckily while I wait to find that perfect forever family, Mackenzie’s will provide me with a wonderful “home along the way” and promises to let me live my life here with all the medical care, food, toys and TLC that a dog needs!

If you are interested in adopting me, sponsoring me, or making a donation to support Mackenzie’s efforts of caring for rescue dogs, please contact Mackenzie’s today! Feel free to visit our website at www.mackenzies.info or call the office at 616-693-2490.
