Pup

Pup ACCT-A-169190 is a 2 year old female who came to the shelter on 7/15 as a stray after being found on a doorstep. Per staff 7/21/24: Did an adoptions meet - Pup was very good! She was initially hesitant to approach, but I loaded the adopters up with Pupperoni and she took them very gently. They liked her - they were respectful of her space and went slow with her. At one point the adopter sat on the ground and Pup jumped in her lap and gave her kisses. Pup did tense up a smidge when she was munching on some grass and the adopter approached her slowly from the side, but she didn't escalate and she relaxed after a moment when the adopter just patted her on the back. They know she'll be a bit of a project, but they liked her. Per volunteer 7/20/24: took her out today, I was the first volunteer to take her for a walk. It was 3 days since she's been out!! SHE WAS GREAT! Walks very nicely, was easy to leash, seems house broken. She enjoyed her walk and we got along fine. SHe allows petting, but I did not hug her, I need more time to be comfortable with that. At the end of the walk I walked her through the lobby so I could showcase her to the possible adopters. SHe was an easy walk through, showed interest in a little girl, nicely sniffed her shoes, smiled at everyone! SHe's not much interested in other dogs on the walk. Likes to watch them. Everyone who sees this fine specimen oooohhed and aaahhhhed! Takes treats nice. Just a real nice pup! 7/15/24 6:37p Dog growled once when approaching but did not move- was easy to get on control pole- she shut down, tail tucked etc - once on van i fed her pb crackers and she took them gently Visited her before leaving shift she is so sweet and will Lay ur head on ur shoulder seeking comfort BEHAVIOR EVALUATION: KNOWN HISTORY: Reactive to APOs KENNEL PRESENTATION: Pup was conflicted in kennel and was laying on her bed when first approaching. She got up and came to the front wagging with mid level wags, but once she got to the front she began to growl and hard stare. She continued to wag while growling at me through the bars. When I showed her the leash she calmed down and allowed me to easily slip it over her head. Exited and returned without issue LEASH SKILLS: Pulls minimally HANDLING: In the room Pup seemed a bit nervous but warmed up quickly to us. She shook off and approached both handlers, going back and forth between us with soft eyes and mid level wags. She would stiffen with some touch at first, but eased into it when going slow. She seemed quite itchy due to her skin issues so it was hard to tell during her eval if she was tolerant due to her behavior, or because of the itchiness and scratching being relieving. She remained tolerant though and allowed full body handling from us, occasionally nudging us with her head for more attention. She also demonstrated knowledge of sit and took treats gently. When a new handler entered the room she alert barked and growled at them, but then within a couple minutes approached softer and gave the new handler wags and allowed handling. PLAY: Engaged in some play with us but lost interest quickly TOYS: Pup would pounce on the toys and would then run away, a bit snatchy but did not take possession most of the time.
