BIO: This cute Labby was picked up as a stray in a very rural area of KY. He is a very pretty labby boy and will make a great family companion! FOSTER PUPDATE 1/9/10: We have had Putter for almost 2 weeks now and it seems strange to think that he hasn't always been with us! Putter is very sweet. He loves to cuddle and have his ears scratched. He also loves to chew! We've been lucky, 95% of the time he picks up one of his own toys but we need to watch him VERY closely as you need to do with all puppies. He is a bit skittish with cars passing while we take walks. He is in he is a WONDERFUL car rider. He curls up and goes to sleep. Putter conquered stairs for the first time. We aren't sure that he had ever seen stairs before because the look of bewilderment on his face was priceless! Going up the stairs took a little coaxing, coming back down, however, was different story. He flat out refused to come down the stairs! I finally has to "Hansel and Gretel" him down with a trail of kibble. Now he and his foster sister thunder up and down the stairs on an hourly basis. Putter is very smart and like most Labs, he is eager to please. In the last two weeks he has learned "SIT", "COME", "LEAVE IT" and "NO BEG". He is not very good at "STAY" yet, mostly because he thinks you are going to leave and like a true lab, Putter wants to be wherever his people are. We are still fighting his ear infection but he has gotten very good about sitting still for his ear drops twice a day. We haven't weighed him since he came to us but my husband and I both agree that he is looking more filled out and muscular but still has a way to go. Putter's favorite thing to do is go to the dog park! He loves to run with his foster sister and meet all of the other dogs there. He also a bit of a ball stealer!! After running around for a little while, he ready to settle down with his sister and go for a nice long walk. Putter is fairly easy to walk and doesn't pull. He is interested in all the new sights, sounds and smells, though, so we do get a little tangled at times. That is why we started to teach him "LEAVE IT". He is very adaptable as long as he is with his people. He went with us to both my in-law's house and my parent's house on Christmas Day. At my in-laws he met his 2 sheltie "foster cousins" and did very well with both. At my parent's house he met his Labrador "foster cousin", his hound dog "foster cousin" and his 2 cat "foster cousins". Putter did VERY well with all of them. The cats were the funniest because all of our dogs ignore them. While Putter was in no way aggressive towards them, he was very interested in them and they looked shocked that a dog was even paying attention to them. Putter had one more first in his week of many firsts. My 4 year old niece came in for Christmas. Putter was very gentle and tolerant with all of her neck squeezes, squeals, and pets. The only time Putter is off-leash outside is in our fenced-in backyard. While he doesn't strike us as a wanderer or bolter, he is definitely in touch with his natural instincts. He chases squirrels, rabbits and birds and is very interested in geese and ducks and would possibly get himself lost not from running away but from chasing. We have a 4-foot chain link fence and as far as I can tell, it hasn't even crossed his mind to try and scale it. He has not shown a ton of affection yet but we don't expect him to until he is more comfortable. I truly think that his spirit was close to broken when he was brought to LRRoC. He licked the back of my hand while I was standing at the stove cooking dinner 2 nights ago. I looked down expecting to see Sadie and was ecstatic to see Putter! It was the first outward sign of affection that he had shown! Progress!
