My Story

Rascal is such a sweetheart!! Her foster mom is working her through some separation anxiiety. I've taken her to work with me Wed-Thurs, and she does okay there. She lies right next to me. She's a pretty shy girl with people. She will bark at them, but then after a little bit, she warms up to them. I find it better if she goes up to people than to have someone go up to her.

All in all though, she is a sweety! She seems to be a one man's dog. She seems to do well with other dogs, but I've only seen her with one dog. She needs to be with someone with a lot of love and patience. She has so much love to give back! .

Rascal is approximately 7 years old in these pictures taken February 19, 2009 in Arkansas, however, she is on the transport and will arrive into her Vermont foster hom on Feb. 27th.

Her owner got her from a local shelter when she was just a puppy in March 2003. Because of a move, Rascal has been given up

Rascal slept in bed with her owner. She loves to cuddle. A very smart girl too that knows simple commands and does great on a leash. She even plays fetch. Rascal enjoys going to doggie day care and playing with other dogs too. She does well with children. She weighs 56 pounds.

From her previous owner: "Rascal never had separation issues, but was always with myself, my husband, or her sister. She and her sister were always there to greet me at the door when I came home, tails wagging, and full of energy.

She has been such a loving, affectionate dog, and she and her sister Ginger have been my lifesavers since my husband passed away suddenly in Oct 2006. I would love to take her when I move, but unfortunately that's not possible.

Rascal needs room to run, and a person or family that is willing to give her love and affection. She is such a sweet loveable dog. I know that she will make someone or a family a very happy pet. I'd like to get an update on where things are at, if you could let me know. If there is any other information that I can provide, please let me know.

I hope that you are able to find her a good home.

Rascal weighs 55 lbs and is current on Heartworm preventative.

This dog is available unless it is marked as Pending, meaning "pending adoption".

If this Dog is marked Urgent, it is because the Arkansas shelter where he/she resides is overfull. Please do not ask local shelters to take this dog in, there are many reasons why they cannot. Please also do not send us letters about why we euthanize, AHR does not euthanize, but the shelters we work with do. We are a rescue and we pull as many dogs as we have foster homes and funds for. We, like the shelter, do not have unlimited resources. Please, please: foster, adopt or sponsor a dog to help save their lives.

FOR PUPPIES: HOMES CONSIDERING PUPPIES MUST BE PREPARED FOR:

FLEXIBLE SCHEDULES FOR POTTY TRAINING-THEY CAN ONLY "HOLD" IT FOR ONE HOUR PER MONTH OF AGE.

CRATE TRAINING FOR THE NEXT 10 MONTHS TO KEEP THEM FROM CHEWING EVERYTHING IN SIGHT.

SUPERVISION WITH CHILDREN, AND OBEDIENCE TRAINING.

SOCIALIZATION-A GOOD DOG MUST BE EXPOSED TO A LOT OF STIMULUS AS A PUPPY SO THAT NEW PEOPLE AND ENVIRONMENTS DO NOT INTIMIDATE THEM AS ADULTS. THE MORE POSITIVE EXPERIENCES -IN AND OUT OF THE HOME- AS A PUPPY, THE BETTER.

HOMES THAT WANT TO HAVE GOOD DOGS, MUST BE PREPARED TO PUT THE TIME AND EFFORT INTO TRAINING A PUPPY. IT IS A LOT OF WORK!!! THEIR BEHAVIOR AND STAGES ARE EQUIVALENT TO A 2 OR 3 YEAR OLD CHILD. IT TAKES A FULL YEAR TO HAVE A CALMER, WELL ADJUSTED DOG! PLEASE DO NOT CONSIDER ADOPTING IF YOU HAVE NOT THOROUGHLY THOUGHT THROUGH THE PROS AND CONS OF A PUPPY...SO MANY PEOPLE END UP RETURNING THEM IN 3-5 MONTHS BECAUSE IT IS CHEWING, JUMPING AND HYPER. THIS IS NORMAL PUPPY BEHAVIOR.

PATIENCE, CHEWIES, SOCIALIZATION, SUPERVISION AND OBEDIENCE TRAINING IS A MUST!!

. We pay a Transportation Service from Arkansas to bring the dogs to New England. The adoption fee is $300 for dogs up to 6 months of age, $250 for dogs 7 months-5 years, and $200 for dogs 5 years and older. This includes vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchip, and transport from Arkansas to Maine on a USDA approved transport with a Health Certificate. All dogs are quarantined 14 days prior to leaving Arkansas. All dogs will be tested for Heartworm prior to adoption. Almost Home Rescue will process your adoption. Applications can be found at www.almosthomerescue.net and can be e-mailed attention of Adele at lonepine_ahr@yahoo for this particular dog. Click HEREto visit our site.
