My Story

Running at large in the city of Avenal. That is what it says on the shelter's intake form. Robbie was a stray living on the streets of California. Now, we use that word a lot, and I think it is important to really think about what it means to be a stray dog. Stray dogs are always hungry, the hunger gnaws at their bellies. They find scraps and garbage to eat. Stray dogs get yelled at. Sometimes people throw things at them. There is no safety, no rest. Water is hard to come by. Will they find a safe spot to sleep tonight? Is another dog going to chase them away from it? Sleep is rarely restful, as they are always keeping one ear open and alert to danger. It is no way for any dog to live, but that was Robbie's reality. Then he became a shelter dog, no longer at large in the city. He had consistent food and nice people to interact with. Things started to look a little brighter. But then the stray hold ended. No one came to adopt him and his name got listed in red. Robbie was one of the lucky ones though, Jenni saved him. And now it is time for the ever-smiling Robbie to find his forever home! Seriously, this husky is always smiling! He smiles when he gets treats. He smiles whenever the water is turned on. And he smiles while being a sasshole to everyone because he thinks he is in charge. He loves to play husky tag, and you better have some treats on you if you expect to catch him. Treats are the way to win his heart in general, but he also accepts them as bribes regularly. This lovable boy is high energy, and everything is a game to him. So, an active home with lots of fun activities would be the best thing for him. Lots of walking and hiking too, in order to burn off all of that excess energy. I can't wait to see his "I am no longer halfway home" smile. It's going to be great.
