My Story

Please meet Roman who is a five year old black male giant schnauzer. Roman came into rescue with Valley Fever for which he is being treated. He has gained weight in just few weeks and his coat is now beautiful and the limp is gone. As soon as his health is built up, he will be neutered. He will be in the Phoenix area after the middle of February when we will know more about him. We do know that he walks well on a leash and loves to ride in the car. We know he should be in a home where someone understands the need to be alpha and can give Roman the exercise, love and appreciation he so much deserves. We know he sits quietly when he is around other dogs on a leash. Roman is also bilingual! He knows some commands in French. He does love to play but is to big to play with smaller dogs. He will need to be on Valley Fever medication until blood tests show he is free of this. These meds can be purchased at several low cost places in the Valley if he needs them after the initial three month period. VSGSR is willing to work out providing these medications for Roman for as long as he needs them.. Roman is very sweet and quite the leaner. He loves to lean on you while being petted. He is a beautiful example of the breed who is just waiting for that special someone to come along to share their life with him. Please contact us for more information.
UPDATE..........Roman has arrived in Phoenix and is a very sweet boy but a big boy! He weighs in at 82 pounds and needs to gain at least 10 pounds. Tests will be done on him but he is looking good and just waiting for someone to love him. He has been around elementary age children but we still don't know about cats. Please contact us for more information about Roman.

We are looking for foster homes for giant schnauzers. Twenty one giants have come into rescue in West Virginia. If we can find some foster homes in the Southwest, we can help our national rescue with these dogs. We need homes that are experienced with large dominant breeds. Several of these dogs do just fine with other dogs and others don't. They don't because they have been kenneled most of their lives and used for breeding purposes. They just need some time and some love and someone to act as alpha with them until they learn the ropes. Please contact us at [email protected] if you might be interested.

Roman is being fostered with the intention to adopt. We are so happy for this wonderful boy that he is finding the love and caring that he so richly deserves.
