My Story

If you are interested in any of the dogs available at New Leash Rescue, you can reach out to the foster listed below for more information and then complete an adoption application which can be found at https://www.newleashrescue.org/adopt/policy. Please email the completed application to [email protected] Rufus is a Border Collie mix around 5 years old. Three years ago, he was found on a reservation in South Dakota where he hadn't had much, if any, interaction with humans. Rufus warmed up while in foster care and learned humans weren't so scary and went to adoption events and eventually was adopted. Rufus was then returned at the beginning of this summer when his adopter's lifestyle changed and he was brought back into rescue. Since Rufus has been back with his foster, he has come a long way. With firm boundaries and directions, Rufus is no longer reactive out in public, though he does wear a muzzle as a precaution as he is prone to panic attacks. Rufus is learning again that people are not out to hurt him and just want to give him pets and love, which he is warming up to. At home is where Rufus is most comfortable. He enjoys running around in the yard with his foster siblings, snoozing on the dog bed, and cuddling with his foster mom if she lets him on the couch. Rufus is crate trained and house trained and never had an accident. Rufus is a quiet boy and only alerts you when someone is at the door, but quickly stops when you tell him to. Rufus is looking for a specific forever home and family so he can be successful. He needs a quiet home with no kids- their unpredictable movements are scary- and not a lot of traffic going through the house. Rufus warms up best to females, but is learning that males are not all that mean and scary, so would prefer a home where a male is willing to work with him and give him time to warm up. Rufus's future home must have breed experience as they have herding traits that most homes aren't accustomed to. Rufus is truly a sweet boy who wants a family to call his own. Will you take a chance on him, he assures you he's worth it. Adoption fee is $300 + tax (no checks) Foster to contact: Annie O. 612-751-0356 or [email protected]. Please inquire with the foster if Rufus will be attending an upcoming adoption event at the Woodbury Petsmart on Saturdays from 11-2pm. Our fosters do the best they can to provide all information about the animal's background and temperament while in foster care in their home. An adopters routine and home environment is likely going to be different than that in their foster home. Sometimes there is more that comes out about a dog's personality once they have been able to settle in a home and truly become comfortable. There are great articles out there written about the different stages a pet goes through after adoption, discussing transitions that happen at 3 days, 3 weeks, and 3 months. We highly recommend reading about this - it will help you understand the transition your new pet goes through.
