About this lucky being - Scout is a 2 year old medium to large sized (50 pounds) male lab/heeler mix who was rescued from Many Farms, Arizona. He was living at a gas station only weighing half of his normal weight and suffered from a healed broken pelvis and dislocated hip. He was given chicken tenders at the gas station and a promise to save him from a life that surely would have ended in his demise. Despite his injuries and lack of food, he was easy to catch and was a gentleman in his transport to his foster in Albuquerque. He was seen by the vet and was able to have hip surgery and a neuter after he gained 25 pounds to ensure he was stable during the surgery. He is using his leg and putting weight on it, but often will forget his leg works and will resort to limping. Scout loves to go on his daily walks and would benefit from someone who could take him on daily adventures. He still is a little timid in the car and does not move much once you put him in the seat for a ride. He likes to graze on his food throughout the day, now that he knows he will always have a full bowl. He is very food motivated and does like to investigate what we are cooking in the kitchen. He does counter surf and will explore the trash if you leave it out in the open, but will respond when you tell him "no".
Scout is crate trained and house trained. He will be enrolled in dog school soon to learn the basics (sit, down, stay, heel, etc.) and is friendly with all people. He is a very active dog and does take some time to settle down if there is a lot of activity in the house. He does not bark, but is vocal by whining and we have heard him howl once. Scout loves stuffed toys and carries them everywhere. He has been living with older children and exposed to lots of visitors.
