My Story

Rocky went to his new home this week! Fingers crossed that it will all work out for him!!

Poor Slim did not get a good start at all! He was chained outside in the terrible cold with chain wrapped around his neck. Then his owner went away for 2 weeks leaving him without food or water!!! Eventually a some really wonderful people noticed this starving boy and started feeding him, took these pictures and showed them to the PA SPCA. Soon after Slim was seized and released to New Hope for care and placement! His neck was also treated and he is on antibiotics for a few more days.

Slim is came into foster care (Feb 8th). He had some frostbite on the end of his ears but it is healing well. He had a bath and was remarkably well behaved! Slim is now gaining weight, so Shamrock suits him much better (we call him Rocky)!

Rocky is loving being inside where he is warm and safe! Who would know that a dog would find such pleasure in lying on the linoleum floor in our kitchen, but this boy thinks it's wonderful!!! Everything is new to him but he takes it all in stride. He saw the TV for the 1st time and barked at a man on the screen!! Then wondered why we were laughing at him.

Rocky is a really sweet boy! He loves to be patted and told what a good boy he is! He is trying so hard to please and understand what it is we want from him! It's truely remarkable that this boy is so friendly and sweet after being treated so horribly. Rocky is now crate trained. He likes the blankets and pillows we have given him! He stays all night in his crate without a peep. He has not had an accident in the house, so housetraining is under control too!

Rocky is very food oriented but despite what he has been through he shows no food aggression at all. He takes treats well and has already learned how to sit for his food! He wiggles and wags his tail trying trying to stay and wait for his food! He likes to play tug too. He knows sit, down, sit from a down position with a hand signal, sit and wait for food, sit for the leash, come, and go crate.
Adoption Application
NEW HOPE DOG RESCUE is not a shelter. Our dogs are placed in loving foster homes. WE NEED FOSTER HOMES TO HELP MORE DOGS - CONTACT US TODAY!!!

Definitions:

Pending - means that we are working through the adoption process with the 1st applicant. We usually don't add the pending until we are pretty sure the adoption will go through (like at the home visit stage)

On Trial or Trial Visit - means that the dog is in their new home for up to 2 weeks before the adopters need to commit to keeping the dog. We want to make sure that everyone is happy with the new living arrangements! We allow this option for everyone except very long distance adoptions (too far to drive).

Adopted - you know!! A happy ending for a homeless dog. We try to let everyone know when we have the final word. Within about 24 hours, the dog's bio will be moved to our happy tails section!
