My Story

Sophie is an affectionate, active one year old Collie mix. She craves attention and wants to be close by her foster(s) at all times. She was surrendered as a result of a seizure by the SPCA, and she is still adjusting to the change in her environment. At just thirty-two pounds, Sophie shows the characteristics of a dog which requires regular exercise. She is very social and reacts well to other dogs, but she is very timid in outdoor situations as this is entirely new to her. Sophie was not trained in her previous situation, but she is picking up basic commands. She has reacted very well to having a regular routine, she now eats slowly, confident that she will not have to compete for food. She will need help and training to be clean in the house. This is a new thing for her, and she has not come to grips with it, but with patience and time this can be resolved. She has a strong desire to please and is an intelligent dog, but she is hesitant with people as a result of her background, and new experiences highlight her uncertainty. Once she is reassured that a new person is not a threat, Sophie opens up completely, showing the trust that dogs display towards those who treat them with kindness. Sophie can be quite vocal at times, so that must be taken into consideration by any family which is considering adopting her. She cries for attention and affection, this may also be a sign of uncertainty. Sophie is a dog that will make a great addition to a family that is willing to invest time in completing her training. In return, she will fill her new home with affection, joy, and devotion.
