My Story

If you are interested in any of the dogs available at New Leash Rescue, you can reach out to the foster listed below for more information and then complete an adoption application which can be found at https://www.newleashrescue.org/adopt/policy. Please email the completed application to [email protected] This sweet girl is Sophie! With her good looks and sweet doe eyes she may look like the perfect addition to your family, but she has some special requirements and is looking for the perfect family to be a part of. Sophie does well with dogs and cats she currently lives with. In fact, she will actually need another playful dog already in the home to help her adjust as humans can be super scary to her. She has been in rescue for months learning to trust, but still gets nervous at certain things her foster mom does. She will need a family that can balance her need of patience and boundaries to make sure she blossoms into the carefree dog she wants to become. Sophie still skittish around unfamiliar noises and will take off to her crate when startled.  Sophie is a border collie mix that is around 1.5 years old, so previous breed experience is encouraged as she needs to keep her mind busy and exercised. She has just started to get used to a harness and enjoys going on outings with her emotional support dog (aka her foster brother Archer). Sophie is crate trained and potty trained, but will most likely have accidents when transitioning to a new place.  Sophie loves to be brushed, play chase, and will cuddle with you on the couch once she’s comfortable with you. Her love and trust is worth everything and the right family will be lucky to have her as part of their pack. Adoption fee is $400.00 + tax (no checks) Foster to contact: Annie 612-751-0356 or [email protected] Please inquire whether Sophie will be at an upcoming adoption event at the Lakeville PetSmart on Saturday from 11-2 looking for a home! Our fosters do the best they can to provide all information about the animal's background and temperament while in foster care in their home. An adopters routine and home environment is likely going to be different than that in their foster home. Sometimes there is more that comes out about a dog's personality once they have been able to settle in a home and truly become comfortable. There are great articles out there written about the different stages a pet goes through after adoption, discussing transitions that happen at 3 days, 3 weeks, and 3 months. We highly recommend reading about this - it will help you understand the transition your new pet goes through.
