This little guy has endeared himself in every way by his determined efforts to grow and prosper. Once the tiniest and most delicate member of his litter, Spanky seemed at times to live by heart and faith alone. He is now, although small, a gentle, healthy little turbo of kisses and playfulness.
Spanky's eye contact is direct, joyful and open; he is filled with happy curiosity. His body type - for now, at least - is very sturdy and compact, and in addition to his excellent eating, playing and sleeping skills, he is a consummate cuddler.
Spanky and his siblings (the litter named "Our Gang") are old fashioned little pups straight out of, you guessed it, the Little Rascals. They are kissy, rompy, optimistic little explorers who revel in the experiences they encounter every day. They are infinitely trusting and profoundly sweet, and we are all crazy about them.
Spanky and his siblings were born in the worst of conditions (during Hurricane Katrina), yet due to the tender ministrations of their wonderful and heroic mother, excellent veterinary care and an experienced foster home, they have had all of the advantages you'd want in a puppy, and it shows in their personalities -- they are friendly, playful and trusting. They associate human attention with kindness and good things, and expect only the best in their interactions.
Spanky's mother is Darla, a lithe and elegant Great Dane/pit bull mix; however, there is little that is elegant about Spanky. He is all eyes, ears and head, and his cuteness is such that it is almost painful to behold. Like the character he is named after, Spanky is small, but full of personality, and we anticipate that he will be the star of the show in his adoptive home.
