Our adoption radius is 3 hours from the Chicagoland area. Meet Spike, a senior dog with a heart of gold. He is a Dachshund Beagle mix who originally came to IDR over 5 years ago after he was found running loose for several weeks. He was quickly adopted to a wonderful family who spoiled him rotten. Unfortunately, after much agonizing debate, his owners made the decision to reach out to us after both of them suffered worsening health ailments rendering them unable to care for him the way he deserved. In spite of the heartbreaking circumstances, we gladly agreed to foster this sweet little guy again. He is slowly adjusting to his new life in his foster home with two resident dog brothers. He was used to having his owners at home most of the time and is making progress with his separation anxiety when his foster family has to leave the house. His personality is as warm as a summer’s day, with a sweetness that can melt hearts. His friendly demeanor makes him the perfect companion for any family. His mellow nature is soothing, his curiosity is endearing, and his gentleness is comforting. Despite his age, Spike is still bright-eyed and full of life. He is people-friendly and dog-friendly, making him a great addition to a home with other pets. Each morning you will be greeted with tail wags and kisses. He is most excited to go on walks and be outside but also has a strong affinity for naps, belly rubs, and ear scratches. Spike may be hard of hearing, but his intelligence shines through in his ability to understand and communicate in his own unique way. He’s a cuddly bundle of joy, who loves nothing more than to snuggle up with his human. Loyalty is a trait that Spike holds dear, he’s the epitome of a faithful companion. His happy demeanor is infectious, spreading joy wherever he goes. He is fully vetted, neutered, microchipped, and ready for his forever home.
