My Story

Titan is a resilient 3.5-year-old long hair Chihuahua mix with a heartwarming story of progress and hope. His early life was marked by neglect; he was one of over 50 dogs rescued from a hoarding situation where he never received the love and attention he needed. This lack of early socialization turned him feral, akin to an outdoor cat that shies away from human contact. After his rescue, Titan spent a year with his first foster family. This period was crucial as he began to slowly learn to trust humans. Despite his wariness, he started to accept treats tossed to him, showing the first signs of his potential to open up. Six weeks ago, Titan moved to his current foster home, where he's been receiving more intensive socialization training. The progress he has made in this short time is remarkable. Although still nervous, he now allows his foster parent to pick him up, pet him, and even walk him on a leash--an impressive milestone considering he'd never been on a leash before. He's also started taking treats directly from his foster parent's hand, a significant indicator of his growing trust. Titan doesn't mind the other dogs and cats in his foster home, but he doesn't rely on them for comfort or support. He would be happy as an only dog or in a home with calm dogs that don't bother him. Despite his progress, Titan remains shy and nervous. He will need a calm, quiet home where he can continue to build confidence at his own pace. He would do best in a child-free environment, which would help him feel more secure and reduce his stress levels. His new family must be patient, willing to give him the time he needs to fully settle in and adapt to his new surroundings. An experienced, dog-savvy person who understands the needs of a dog like Titan will be essential in helping him continue to thrive. Given his potential as a flight risk, a secure fenced yard or vigilant leash walks are necessary to keep him safe. Titan has come a long way from his early days of neglect and fear. Although he still has a journey ahead of him, his progress so far shows his potential to become a loving and trusting companion. With the right home and continued patience, Titan is ready to blossom into the wonderful dog he was always meant to be.To have your home considered for adoption, read about our adoption process or fees, and find out about interstate transport (dogs only), please visit our website. https://longwayhome.org/apply Long Way Home makes no guarantees on breed--most animals we receive from shelters are mixed breeds. As long as they need rescue, that's what is most important to us.
