About THUNDER:      Okay, so "Thunder" is not the most original of dog names.  But this sweet guy lost his old life, with a family that supposedly loved him, and his name was all he had left.  We just didn't have the heart to change it on him.  He showed up at a kill shelter in southeast Michigan, where the Petfinder listing said:  This beautiful dog was turned into the pound because the owners are "moving"!!  I guess he was never part of their family.  Please don't let him live out his last days in a tiny little cell, only to be put down at the end of his time. This big boy deserves a loving family. He is craving attention and loves to be petted!"

We got further information from a volunteer advocating for him.  He really fell for Thunder, and recognized immediately that this was a dog who'd always had "the soft life".  Thunder's family said that he is good with other dogs, cats, and kids -- and he is completely housebroken.  The volunteer enthused "He loves everyone.  Even though he's 99 pounds, he'd very much like to be a lap dog!  He is SO sweet and gentle, I hate to see anything happen to him ... and his time is running out!"

We believe Thunder is 8 years old but still has plenty of life left in him!  He weighs about 85 pounds and we think he is a Malamute/Golden Retriever mix -- not only because of his adorable floppy ears and the red/gold running through his coat, but because of the shape of his muzzle, his gentle, laid back temperament, etc.  He's had surgery to repair a tendon in his back leg and is recovering beautifully.  Everyone who meets Thunder falls in love with him -- and if you meet him, you'll immediately see why!  PLEASE consider giving Thunder the loving home he so deserves!

His Foster Mom Says:  Thunder is an amazingly good good boy.  He greets people with a wagging tail and a Malamute smile.  He doesn't jump up or crowd people.

Thunder knows all KINDS of "good stuff". He knows SIT, COME, DOWN, SHAKE and STAY.  He is totally laid-back and gets along with absolutely everybody.  I have a very dominant male Husky/Malamute who makes it his job to intimidate all the other dogs, and every foster who comes through here.  Orion will get in Thunder's face and bark until the fur actually moves with his breath, and Thunder just calmly takes it all in stride, turning and walking calmly away.  I can't believe (based on the records left by the family who dumped him) that poor Thunder had been suffwering for over a year with that injury to his leg.  I guess in his case, the day he was dumped was the best day of his life, as somebody is going to know GREAT joy in sharing their life with Thunder, and he'll finally get the love and commitment he deserves.

This dog's adoption donation is $225. If you know how much it costs to give a new dog responsible vet care, you can easily see that this is quite a bargain! This dog has had a complete health exam, has already been altered (spayed or neutered), is microchipped, has tested negative for heartworm, has been kept on heartworm and flea preventative, is fully vaccinated and free of parasites.

What to do if you want to adopt this dog: Just SEND AN EMAIL to request an adoption application! We will review your application to determine if there is a good match between your family and this dog.  We may suggest another if we can offer a better fit in terms of lifestyle, experience, other pets, etc. A vet check, reference checks, and a home visit will be conducted before an adoption can be considered for approval.

NOTE:   In the vast majority of cases, the dogs in our program are rescued from shelters, and Northern Lights has no means by which to collect or verify a dog's history.  We work in concert with our veterinarians, and breed and age estimates are based on a combination of professional input and our collective experience.  Our policy with information acquired while the dogs are in our care is that of "full disclosure".  It is our goal to ensure the adopter has all available information to ensure the best possible match between the dog and the adopting person or family.  In some instances, because of applicant interest, dogs are in our program for relatively brief periods of time.  If we have identified a temperament or health condition while the dog is in our care and custody, every effort will be made to correct it prior to adoption OR the adopter will be made aware of the issue or condition prior to adoption.  Northern Lights' screening process is designed to select only adopters who are willing, and have the means, to treat conditions which may occur after adoption, and adopter will be contractually responsible for doing so.

NORTHERN LIGHTS IS NOT A SHELTER. We are a rescue comprised of individuals who open their private homes to foster dogs in need of a second chance.  IF YOU WOULD LIKE MORE INFORMATION ABOUT HOW YOU CAN SAVE A LIFE BY FOSTERING FOR NORTHERN LIGHTS, EMAIL US FOR INFO AND AN APPLICATION!   For answers to FAQ regarding who we are, as well as our adoption policies and practices, please VISIT OUR PETFINDER HOME PAGE.
