My Story

Tony is a 2 yr old red and white pembroke welsh corgi male who is looking for a new forever home. He was in a southern VA high kill shelter when I found him. He gets along fine with other dogs and is housebroken. Tony has a quiet disposition and would make a great companion for some lucky person. He is now neutered, has all his shots, rabies cert, and microchipped. Tony had surgery on both of his knees and is rehabilitating now. The surgery was necessary as he was having difficulty getting around. It has been almost 2 weeks since his surgery and he is doing great. He actually can move faster now than before the surgery. Tony is also on a green bean diet because he weighed in at a hefty 39 lbs. That's about 10 lbs more than he should be. Tony likes to go for walks and loves to sleep in his doggie bed. He is a low energy dog and would be great for an older person who wants a less active dog. He has exercises that I do with him daily that only takes about 5 minutes. If you think that Tony might fit into your household, please call Debbie at 740-610-8729 or fill out the application below. Adopting a dog that has been moved from a home to a shelter and then to a rescue is not for everyone. It takes time and patience to make that dog feel at home in his new environment. It takes at least 1 week and usually up to a month for a dog to acclimate to your schedule and home. An animal shelter is the most stressful place for a dog to be, with other dogs barking and not knowing what is happening around them. Some dogs come to their new home scared and timid. They will sometimes take several days before they start eating and have anything to do with the new adopters.

PLEASE, if you aren't willing to work with your new rescue and let them get to know you at their own pace, please don't apply for one of my dogs. Returning a dog within 24-48 hours of picking it up is hard on the dog and hard on the rescuer. Go to a breeder if you want a cute little puppy that wags its tail when he sees you. He hasn't been through what a rescue dog has been through.

It's not easy rescuing a dog. It takes patience and time and LOVE. These dogs need love and understanding, not another rejection.
