My Story

Meet Woody, a six year old Dandie Dinmont mix. We first just called him a Terrier mix, but have since been contacted by the Dandie Dinmont Rescue League, who feel sure that he is a mustard Dandie! We are just so glad we found him at Animal Control and rescued him. He is truly awesome and gets along great with people, dogs, and cats. When we first met Woody, we noticed that he moves like he has wooden legs for a minute when he comes out of a resting position, then shakes it off and walks more normally, occasionally hopping like he's really happy. We couldn't figure out the cause, so we took him up to the UGA Small Animal Veterinary Hospital in Athens. Woody stayed there for several days, and they tested him for muscular dystrophy and many other muscle disorders (and they let us know that they fell in love with him during that time!). It turns out that Woody has myatonia, a neuromuscular condition that keeps his muscles from relaxing right away after being in a contracted state (sitting, resting, sleeping, etc.) The condition is helped by medication and exercise, and Woody sure loves that. He is such a happy-go-lucky little guy that you would just think he's dancing on air! Woody is hoping for a home where his new family will give him lots of exercise and love. That lucky family will be rewarded tenfold! Woody is crate-trained and well on his way to being housebroken. If you would like to meet Woody, let us know. We are sure you won't be disappointed! Woody is fully vetted -- neutered, heartworm negative, and current on his vaccinations and deworming. His adoption fee is $150 (cash only, please).
