My Story

UPDATE 4/24/10 - Zipp is almost through her heartworm treatment. ONLY TWO WEEKS TO GO. She's done so well, has been so patient. During her treatment she has been sleeping in our kitchen/lounge area which is also where we keep the cats! She is CAT SAFE and will ignore them! Zipp is great on a leash, is housetrained 90% of the time (if she's really mad at you she knows how to make you MAD, she's that smart! But those times are rare, she's a good girl) Zipp is queen of the kitchen here at the shelter. And she expects to be treated as such. She loves cuddles, kisses, long walks and treats. She's so smart she knows everything that's going on. After all Zipp has been through, after her long hard road - please, please help us give her a second chance at a forever home. It's the least she deserves.

---------------------------
Update 1/13/10 - Zipp has begun her pre-treatment for heartworms but due to a shortage nationwide in the drug Immiticide we have been told we will NOT be able to begint he immiticide portion of her treatment until March. We are dissapointed. She is still available for adoption - but would need to be brought back for treatment - 4 visits total where she would stay all day. Please call or email if you are interested in adopting her... the video below is of her and another dog, her bed buddy Spencer. Update: 9/20/09. Zipp has tested positive for heartworms, and will be treated. We have recieved payment for the medicines, but she will still need lots of care during her treatment. Any funds toward this we would be so greatful for. She has started her pre-meds and will start treatment in under a month.

Zipp makes a great indoor dog. We have been bringing her inside as much as possible, especially during the storms we have been having as she is scared of them. She settled down as the bad weather blew over in a side room in our office, on a comfy blanket. If taken out every 4-5 hrs she has no accidents inside. She walks wonderfully on a leash, gets along with all the other dogs - she is not food aggressive. She is also disinterested in the shelter cats.

Zipp is so smart she can open the latch on her kennel, or on the shelter gates. we have to make sure we lock them! She learns really quickly and picks up new things fast. Who said you can't teach an old dogs new tricks? Please come and visit her, take her for a walk and consider making a new best friend. Zipp so needs a forever home. --------------------------------

We are lucky that we know a lot more about Zipp's history than we usually do with dogs we take from the City Kennels. Zipp was owner surrendered because she was 'tearing up the yard'. Zipp has been an outdoor dog her whole life and was never really walked or exercised. She would tear up the yard during bad weather as she is scared of storms. With a little effort and attention she will make the best housedog ever. All she needs is someone to play with her, spend time with her, take her on walks and to be an indoor dog. Our heart is just breaking for Zipp as she was turned over to the city animal control after having lived at her home for the past 5 years, originally adopted from the old city kennels. Her est DOB is 7/22/05.

Zipp is black with a white chest and weighs aprx 35lbs.

Many people don't know that Black dogs routinely get overlooked in favor of lighter colored dogs. You can learn more about this at black pearl dogs.

Please give Zipp a chance and view her listing a second time, take another look at her pictures. She deserves the same chance as every other dog.

Zipp is loving, caring sweet dog who desperately needs a FOREVER home. We never want her to have to be left abandoned in a shelter or pound again and we know we will find that awesome home for her. Please contact us if you think you can help us find Zipp a home.
