My Story

Zoe is a 27 pound flat coated non shedding mini doberman looking dog with tall ears that often stand up, and a cropped tail. She has beautiful 2 toned brown and tan markings. She is quiet and sweet and laid back and appears to be less than 1 year old. The people who brought her to us said she suddenly appeared in their neighborhood. She hung around for three weeks so they fed her but she never left and no one in the neighborhood claimed her so they finally brought her to us. She could not see well and has eye problems so we took her to the vet immediately. Exrays revealed a bullet in her head! The vet said it was close range and she was definitely shot on purpose. Can you imagine the pain and suffering this poor thing must have endured for a month or more? Shot in the head and then wandering around blind with no food or water in unfamiliar territory? We payed for surgery and the bullet has been removed along with one of her eyes. She cannot see well with her remaining eye due to the trauma but she is recovering and still as sweet and trusting as ever. One of our staff is fostering her and reports she is good with cats, dogs, kids, adults, is house broken, and well behaved. She was definitely someones house dog. She looks like a tiny doe and has a dear personality that lights up a room. When placed with another young dog, she tries to play with it, even though she cannot see well. We hope someone will take her home to be pampered and appreciated rather than abused and abandoned. She is a very tough dog to have gone through what she has and survived. If she is to be adopted, she needs to live inside in a fairly quiet household without over-exuberant people or rough or aggressive pets where she could be overwhelmed or hurt or scared. We also would like her to go to a home with a fenced yard. Too much chaos and no fence would be difficult for a nearly blind dog.
